MAGNUS is proud to recognize Sheriff Eli Rivera of Cheshire County, New Hampshire, as Knight of MAGNUS #60.
This honor recognizes leaders whose service extends far beyond a title. Throughout his career, Sheriff Rivera has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to strengthening law enforcement professionals, first responders, and the communities they serve. He has consistently invested in leadership development, professional training, and wellness programs that have benefited those under his supervision, leaders across New Hampshire, and public safety professionals beyond the state.
Sheriff Rivera has dedicated decades of his life to public service. First elected in 2012, he made history as New Hampshire’s first Latino elected sheriff and is now serving his seventh term. His career reflects a deep belief that leadership is not simply about authority. It is about service, responsibility, and creating opportunities for others to grow.
His commitment to service began in the United States military. Sheriff Rivera enlisted in the United States Coast Guard in 1982, serving honorably for five years before completing an additional seven years in the United States Army Reserve.
His law enforcement career includes service with the Cheshire County New Hampshire Department of Corrections, the Winchester New Hampshire Police Department, and the Keene New Hampshire Police Department. He retired from the Keene Police Department as a lieutenant in 2012 before continuing his service as Sheriff of Cheshire County.
Sheriff Rivera currently serves on the New Hampshire Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission and previously served as President of the Small and Rural Law Enforcement Executives Association. As a Team Rubicon Clay Hunt Fellow, he also supports disaster response efforts that bring veterans and first responders together to serve communities in times of crisis.
Sheriff Rivera’s legacy is not measured only by the positions he has held or the history he has made. It is also found in the people he has encouraged, the leaders he has developed, and the lives strengthened through his commitment to service and wellness.
